Privacy Policy

The Short Version

We don't collect your code. Period. ShadowGit runs entirely on your machine. Your AI assistants can access your code history locally via our MCP server, but your code never leaves your computer. We only know you exist when you activate your license.

What We Don't Collect

• Your source code - it never leaves your machine
• Your file names or directory structures
• Your commit messages or code history
• Usage analytics or telemetry data
• Cookies or tracking pixels
• Any personal data beyond license activation

What We Do Collect

The only data we collect is during license activation:

• Email address - To send your license key and support
• License key - To validate your purchase
• Machine ID - A hashed identifier to prevent license sharing
• Activation timestamp - When you activated your license

How ShadowGit Works

ShadowGit creates a .shadowgit.git directory in your project folder. This directory contains all your code snapshots and stays on your machine. We have no access to it. We can't see it. We don't want to see it.

Our MCP server (shadowgit-mcp-server) runs locally and gives your AI assistants (Claude, Cursor, etc.) read-only access to your code history. This happens entirely on your machine - no data is sent to us or anywhere else.

The only network request ShadowGit makes is a periodic license validation check (once every 7 days). This check only sends your license key - nothing else.

Your Rights

• Access - Request what data we have (spoiler: just your license info)
• Deletion - Request deletion of your account
• Portability - Export your license data
• Control - Your code data is 100% under your control

Data Security

Your code is as secure as your machine. We can't access it, hackers can't steal it from us (because we don't have it), and no AI is training on it. Your license data is encrypted and stored securely using industry-standard practices.

AI Assistant Integration

ShadowGit integrates with AI assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, etc.) through our MCP server. This integration is completely local - your AI assistant reads your code history directly from your machine. No code data is sent to Anthropic, OpenAI, or any other AI service beyond what you explicitly send in your conversations.

Third-Party Services

We use secure payment processing for purchases. We never see your credit card details.

Children's Privacy

ShadowGit is a developer tool. If you're under 13 and writing code that needs disaster recovery, We're impressed, but please get parental consent.

Changes to This Policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. But honestly, our philosophy won't change: your code stays on your machine.
